Church… Is it a building?

Today I was blessed with yet another amazing experience.  Jean Phillipe speaks at this church every second sunday of the month..  It is on Route 1, between Arcahaie and Cabaret.  Today his sermon was on  worship.  Of course because of the language barrier I did not understand everything but Jean Phillipe had handed out a sheet before hand that had all of the scripture references on the sheet.  I could follow with that partially, but I found my mind drifting.

Drifting into what church really is.  My mind goes back to all of the sermons at my home church, by different pastors, all teaching the same thing.  How church is NOT the building.  It is not a place.  Today, a group of brothers and sisters in Christ came together to worship, praise, and learn more about Him.  And it didn’t matter that the floor was dirt, and the walls were plywood, the support nothing more than tree branches…

1 Corinthians 3:9-16 (NKJV)

For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building. 10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

What!  I am God’s building?  All believers are considered to be God’s building.  Our cornerstone, you got it, Jesus Christ.  What an incredible acknowledement.

The above photo is Jean Phillpe preaching..  I can not wait to get home so that I can post video of him.  What an amazing spiritual gift this young man has.  Today he talked about the elements of worship, I hope that someday he will have the opportunity to share with you.  The pastor took time to have us all introduce ourselves to the congergation, as there were 6 of us with Jean Phillipe.  Rhitza was awesome and translated for Sherry and I.  He also wanted to make us all feel welcome and thanked us several times for coming.  They sang a hym in english for us, and asked me to pray for their discipleship meeting that was taking place after service today.  I am normally not a very good public prayer, and on the spot like that made me very nervous, but no one translated from english to creole, so therefore there were no giggles… Then all 6 of us came forward and the congergation prayed for all of us.  It was so touching.  The love that I could feel radiate through me and around me.  Feeling the Holy Spirit so strongly that tears were running down my face.

I am so appreciative of everyone that supports  our growth as a body of believers.  I want to tell everyone that supports us through prayer, and/or with physical/financial gifts, that I praise the Lord for you.  I pray that through you the light will always shine.

Blessings to you all, I am going to try and ward off the mosquitos who seem to love my cold Minnesota blood….
